Touching lives in Limestone

On Wednesday, April 27th, the state of Alabama was hit with over 160 tornadoes. Hundreds of homes destroyed and over 300 lives lost. The storms started coming in late morning. We have had major storms in Texas while we were living there and Glenda and the girls were caught in a tornado back in 1999 that hit Fort Worth. But last Wednesday was something we will never forget. When we first started seeing the storm cells develop, we got our cameras out to capture the major lightning and swirling clouds. Then the storms started getting dark and violent. A large tree 50 feet from our RV came crashing to the ground as the winds blew through. We then decided that we should find cover in Ron and Pam Gothart's home. We cleared out the hall closet and all of us got in. The storms seemed to calm and we went back outside to look around. Then another cell came through and another. It was a long day of going in and out of that closet. The storms finally passed and all was calm. With the power knocked out, we had no idea what had happened just 10 miles from us. The next morning we heard that many cities throughout Alabama were completely devastated by tornadoes. We knew that we just couldn't stay in our RV and not do something to help. So our family along with the Hellfighters Christian Motorcycle Ministry loaded up and headed for Limestone County, Alabama to help in any way possible. When we got there, we were in shock to see what F4 tornadoes can do to destroy a city in seconds. Hundreds of homes were crushed or had completely vanished. Families were trying to recover any of their belongings. We setup our RV in the parking lot of the fire station and the Hellfighters led by Ron, Pam and their daughter Christa started cooking food on their large trailer grill. People from all around came and started helping us serve and deliver the food, as it was cooked, to the people in the community. Just like the fishes and loaves of bread that Jesus gave His disciples and said to feed the 5 thousand; that is exactly what happened here. As soon as we thought the meat was all cooked, more would come in from people in the community. That continued for the next three days. We were able to go out into the neighborhoods and hug and pray with those that lost their homes. On Sunday we were scheduled to be in Henagar, Alabama for a service, but because there was no power, God redirected our paths. Sunday night we set up our PA system in the fire station parking lot and did a concert of worship for the people of Limestone. Pastor Eric Maddix from Limestone and Pastor Mark Beaird of Harvest shared a word as we sang songs of hope. It was so awesome to see people loving and helping each other. The ministry was God ordained and lives were touched and hearts changed.
